METU CANCER SYSTEM BIOLOGY LABORATORY (CanSyL)

cansyl.metu.edu.tr

Cancer System Biology Laboratory (CanSyL), is a research facility for cancer studies and cancer bioinformatics at the systems level. Recent WHO-IARC data reports that cancer is the major cause of morbidity and mortality (GLOBOCAN-2014) world wide. Cancer is a complex disease, defined by uncontrolled proliferation and spreading of abnormal cells. As a result, cancer tissue includes cell groups with different molecular characteristics, which contributes to tumor and patient heterogeneity. Therefore, systems biology approaches targeting complexity of cancer cells using experimental and computational methods are the main goal of CanSyL, by integrating, and applying interdisciplinary methods. We aim to gain a systems view of cancer biology and to develop computational tools that would be used in patient-specific diagnosis prognosis and treatment for this deadly disease. Thus, it will be possible to produce solutions for cancer risk prediction, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up purposes.
